Soundhouse Artists Work with the Legendary Myron McKinley of Earth, Wind & Fire
Soundhouse artists recently had the opportunity to learn from one of the music industry's most accomplished musicians when Myron McKinley visited for a special performance workshop.
As the longtime musical director and keyboardist for the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire, McKinley has spent more than two decades leading one of the most iconic live acts in music. In addition to his work with Earth, Wind & Fire, he has toured and performed with artists including Whitney Houston, Stanley Clarke, En Vogue, Kenny Lattimore, and Shai, while also building a career as a producer, composer, and film score writer.
During the workshop, McKinley worked directly with Soundhouse bands, offering real-time coaching on performance, stage presence, musical communication, and groove. Drawing from decades of experience performing on the world's biggest stages, he challenged students to think beyond playing the right notes and instead focus on connecting with both their fellow musicians and their audience.
Throughout the session, artists received personalized feedback on everything from ensemble dynamics and musical interpretation to professionalism and preparation. McKinley's insight into what separates good performers from great ones gave students a firsthand look at the level of excellence expected in the professional music industry.
The workshop embodied one of Soundhouse's core philosophies: giving young artists direct access to the professionals shaping today's music industry. Rather than simply hearing about successful careers, students had the opportunity to ask questions, receive mentorship, and apply feedback immediately in a live rehearsal setting.
For many of the artists in attendance, learning from the musical director behind one of the most celebrated bands in history was an unforgettable experience. Workshops like this continue to reinforce Soundhouse's commitment to preparing students for professional careers by connecting them with world-class musicians who have built lasting success through artistry, discipline, and innovation.
As Soundhouse continues to bring legendary performers and educators into its studios, opportunities like this remind students that the next breakthrough often begins with learning from those who have already achieved it.
