Soundhouse Grad Sofia Detjen Accepted into Prestigious Harvard-Berklee Dual Degree Program

Sofia Detjen, a standout drummer and alumna of Caleb Chapman’s Soundhouse, has been accepted into the highly selective Harvard-Berklee Dual Degree Program. This exceptional program admits only about ten students worldwide each year, allowing them to pursue a Bachelor of Arts at Harvard University and a Master of Music at Berklee College of Music over five years.

Sofia's musical journey began at age five, inspired by drumming along to Taylor Swift songs. Her talent quickly became evident when she won first place in a snare drum solo competition against middle schoolers as a first grader.  She honed her skills under the mentorship of esteemed drummers, including Jay Lawrence, and became the first female drummer in the 23-year history of Caleb Chapman’s Crescent Super Band, eventually serving as its rhythm section leader.

During her tenure with Soundhouse, Sofia performed at renowned jazz festivals across North America and Europe, collaborating with members of Journey, The Killers, and the Saturday Night Live Band.

Academically, Sofia has demonstrated excellence as a National AP Scholar with Distinction and a 2023 Deseret News/KSL Sterling Scholar finalist. She also received the Deseret News/UHSAA Academic All-State Award for 6A girls cross country.

Sofia's journey from a passionate young drummer to a dual-degree student at two of the world's most prestigious institutions is a testament to her unwavering dedication and talent. We at Soundhouse are immensely proud of her achievements and look forward to her continued success.
